Thomas D. Ferro, M.D. FAAOS
Medical Director & CEO
Dr. Ferro has over 25 years of total knee arthroplasty experience. A board certified surgeon with licensure in California, Dr. Ferro is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and a diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, and has contributed many published research studies on bone and joint issues.
Dr. Ferro has served as the Medical Director of orthopedics and joint replacement institutes for multiple centers and hospitals. Dr. Ferro holds an MD degree from University of California, San Diego.
Dr. Ferro earned an additional fellowship in joint replacement and adult reconstructive surgery at the prestigious Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute in Arlington, Virginia.
Austin Ferro
VP of Engineering
Austin graduated from Cal Poly in 2016 with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. As V.P. of Engineering at AOD, Austin’s responsibilities include implant and instrument design and oversight as well as the management and development of AOD’s intellectual property portfolio.
Maria Morris
VP Business Development
Maria comes to Applied Orthopedic Design, Inc. with more than 25 years of experience in business development, strategy, and sales. She began her business career as an investment banker on Wall Street working at Goldman Sachs, then moved into an entrepreneurial role as one of the founders of a software company where she served as Senior Vice President of Sales and Business Development. Team work, clearly defined expectations, open communications and consistent branding are hallmarks of her work style and career successes. Maria graduated from the University of Illinois, Urbana, with a BS in Industrial Psychology and then went on to earn an MBA from the University of Southern California.
Joe Phillips, IDSA
Lead Design
Joe Phillips, an Industrial Designer with a diverse background in manufacturing, is able to leverage his years of experience in his role as head of design at AOD.
Joe’s primary duties include developing solid models of various medical instruments and implants, as well as determining manufacturing feasibility and managing the manufacture of prototypes for trial fit and function.
Nathan Banh
Project Manager
Nathan is a recent Cal Poly Grad with an Undergraduate and Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering. Combining his biomedical expertise with guidance from Dr. Ferro, Nathan leads our team of biomedical engineers in developing the NANO and BLUEPRINTING Pre-Operative Modeling technique.
Austin Griewe
Project Engineer I
Austin is currently finishing his fourth year at Cal Poly studying Biomedical Engineering. After completing the Undergraduate Program, he will continue his education at Cal Poly with a Master's Degree in BMED.
Alexandria Kwong
Project Engineer I
Alexandria Kwong is a fourth year Biomedical Engineering student at Cal Poly.
Bryson Chan
Student Engineer
Bryson is pursing a Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering at Cal Poly. Bryson’s interests include prosthetic and orthopedic medical devices and design. Bryson enjoys working at AOD for its great team dynamic and working to improve each patients’ functionality.
